About Yvonne Minus

Yvonne Minus is a proud community servant, who strives every day to find innovative solutions to better her beloved community. Yvonne has called Brevard, more specifically, Melbourne, “home,” for over 43 years. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia. She is a graduate of Riverview High School (Sarasota, FL), and Marsh Draughon College of Business (Atlanta, GA). Upon moving to Melbourne, Yvonne began working at Harris Corporation, now L3Harris, where she retired after 27 years of service.

​

Yvonne is married to James, a disabled Veteran, who proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years. They have 3 children (1 deceased daughter, Yolanda), 7 grandchildren, and two beautiful great-granddaughters.

​

Yvonne was elected as the first black female to serve on the Melbourne City Council in 2016 and was appointed to serve as Vice Mayor from November 2017 until November 2018. Yvonne was reelected in November 2020, and she was also appointed by the
council to serve as Vice Mayor in November 2023. She was initially appointed to the City Council in January 2014 after the untimely passing of Council Member Harry Goode. She served from January 2014 until the November 2014 election. 

Yvonne's Service

As stated before, Yvonne Minus is a servant-leader, and her track record of service to her community speaks volumes. Her service includes the following but is not limited to:

​

  • Yvonne is a member of the Brevard County Community Development Block Grant Committee, which serves as the District 3 appointee, having been appointed by Brevard County Commissioner John Tobia.

​

  • Yvonne was appointed by Commissioner John Tobia to serve on the 2022 Brevard County Redistricting Committee.

​

  • Yvonne Minus is an alternate Board member of the Brevard County Commission on Aging (BCOA).

​

  • Yvonne is a past president of the Space Coast League of Cities, and she also
    serves as a member of the Florida League of Cities Administrative Legislative Committee.

​

  • Yvonne currently serves as Vice Chair of the Space Coast Transportation
    Planning Organization (SCTPO) and is a member of the Central Florida Metro
    Planning Organization Alliance (CFMPOA). These committees review and study roads, highways, and lanes on the Space Coast and Central Florida corridors for better safety and innovative ways for our future.

​

  • Yvonne Minus serves as president of the Melbourne Police Community Relations Council (MPCRC).

​

  • Yvonne Minus is a 38-year member of Piper-Gardner American Legion Auxiliary 191-Melbourne and served as President for 2 different terms.

​

  • Yvonne Minus has served as president of the South Brevard County Task Force (SBCTF). This council mentors and assists at-risk youth in the community and provides free annual workshops that address bullying, crime, self-esteem, and youth development issues.

 

  • Yvonne served on the Melbourne Citizens Advisory Board (CAB) for 14 years.

​

  • Yvonne serves as the Executive Secretary on the Brevard Homeless CoalitionBoard of Directors and is also a member of the Continuum of Care (CoC) committee.

​

  • Yvonne Minus is the Treasurer for the Florida Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (FBC-LEO).

​

  • Yvonne Minus is a faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Melbourne, where Rev. Nathaniel L. Harris serves as Pastor. She also serves on the church personnel committee, and she is the president of Usher Ministry No. 1.
